Which features use my location, and why?

MotoClubHub only uses your location for features that genuinely need it, and only when you allow it. Here is everywhere it is used.

While you are using the app (only when the app is open on screen):

• The map: centres the map on you and shows what is nearby, such as meet ups, cafés, fuel and service stations, and motorcycle garages.
• Creating a meet up: sets the meeting point near you so it is quick to place.
• Save parking: records where you parked so you can find your bike again.
• Near me: shows nearby safety markers, such as stolen bikes reported near you.

In the background (keeps working when the app is minimised or your screen is off, and needs the "Always" permission below):

• Live location at a meet up: shares your position with other attendees so the group can find each other. A Supporter or Verified feature.
• Live location with friends: shares your position with your friends. A Supporter feature.
• Distress signal: shares your position with nearby riders so they can come and help.
• Map Ride: records your route as you ride so you can save and export it.

Can I share my live location, and how do I control it?

Yes, there are two kinds of live location sharing, and both are opt-in:

• With friends (a Supporter feature): share your position with your friends so they can see where you are. You turn it on or off under Live Location in Settings. See Friends.
• At a meet up (a Supporter or Verified feature): share your position with everyone attending a meet up so the group can find each other. See Rides & Routes.

In both cases you are asked to confirm before sharing starts, you control when it is on, and it stops automatically a short time after the meet up ends. Sharing needs the Always location permission so it can keep working when your screen is off.

What location permissions does the app ask for?

Your device controls how much location access the app has. There are a few levels:

• Don't Allow / Off: the app has no access, and the location features above will not work.
• While Using the App (shown as "Allowed while using the app"): the app can use your location only when it is open on screen. This covers the map, creating meet ups, parking and "near me".
• Always (iOS "Always", Android "Allow all the time"): the app can use your location in the background too. This is required for live location sharing, the distress signal, and recording a ride, because these need to keep working when your screen is off or the app is minimised.
• Precise vs Approximate: precise location gives your exact position and is recommended for routes, parking and live sharing. Approximate is coarser and fine for a rough map view.

You can change or withdraw any of these at any time in your device settings. The app keeps working if you decline, but the related features will be limited.

Will using location drain my battery?

Location itself is light, but continuously tracking your exact position uses more battery. The heavier features are the background ones:

• Live location sharing, an active distress signal, and recording a ride all track your position continuously, so they use more battery the longer they run.
• Casual use, such as viewing the map, uses very little.

To keep battery use down:

• Live location sharing stops automatically a short time after a meet up ends, and you can stop it manually at any time.
• Ride recording keeps running until you stop it, so end the recording when you finish your ride.
• On long rides, consider a phone charger or power bank if you will be sharing or recording for a while.

How do I turn location on or off?

Location access is controlled by your device. The Location option in Settings opens the controls, or you can change it in your phone's settings for MotoClubHub at any time, including switching between While Using, Always, and precise or approximate.
